Local Businesses Support Pier Party
From bars to realtors and lawyers, Western New York businesses have lined up to back Pride at the Pier, Buffalo’s biggest summer bash for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities.
Events are planned all month long leading up to the big event, which features famed drag performer Lady Bunny, on Sunday, August 22 from noon to 7 p.m.
Friends, Q, Roxy’s Green Room and Cathode Ray will participate in a street party on August 7 to benefit the Pride Center, and Fugazi will host a sailor-themed Men Meeting Men party on August 21. Tickets to Pride at the Pier will be sold at both events.
The Underground will feature a Sailor Shot Boy each Saturday night in August leading up to the event. All proceeds will benefit the Pride Center.
After Pride at the Pier is over, the fun continues at Club Marcella’s “Life’s a Drag” show featuring Florida performer Armani. The festivities begin with a 7 p.m. cookout. Cobalt, which this summer, will host a “Soldiers and Sailors” after party with drink specials and entertainment.
The Allentown Alternative Association will sponsor a bus going from Allen Street to the Pier to give party-goers a safe way to enjoy the festivities for $3. Trips will be made throughout the event, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Other sponsors of the event include West Herr Ford of Amherst, Myriad Realty, Contour Financial Planning, Rolls Kohn LLP, Salon DuBouchett, City Tropic Tanning, Dr. Robert Crabtree, Coca-Cola and other individuals.
“Sponsoring first class events like this helps us give back to the community whose members have used our legal services,” Jim Rolls, a partner at Rolls Kohn and a member of the Pride Center Board of Directors, said.
Tickets are on sale at www. and at the Pride Center. The $15 admission fee includes food, beer/soda, entertainment and more.
