Get Ready for Your Own Curtain Call
By Jim Ver Steeg, Center Director
It might not be Broadway. You may not have your name in lights. But when one very important curtain you should feel free to take a sweeping and dramatic bow for your service to the community and the ideas that matter most to you.
Forget learning lines and going to dress rehearsals; and don’t bother worrying what the temperamental director or fickle audience might think. This show is all about you and the issues facing our city, state and country. What’s the best part? All it takes to star in this production is a registration and an appearance at show time. That’s right, it’s the one opportunity where we can all have our voices heard – when we vote.
Let’s face it, in real life very few of us get to be the bossy diva who tells people what to do. So maybe it’s not the curtain of a New York stage, but it’s the curtain we pull back ourselves after we decide where we think this country should be headed.
Do you support equal marriage rights? Do you think a stronger economy and basic human dignity might actually be good things? Then it’s time to make your voice heard. Register to vote, pay attention to what the politicians are (and are not) telling you, and make your decision at the ballot box. Then pull back that curtain gorgeous, because now you’re a star!
For voter registration, contact the Pride Center at or register online.
