Alcoholics Anonymous Group Begins in July at Pride Center
Many individuals in Western New York’s LGBT communities struggle with alcohol addiction, and some feel they have no place to turn for help. That’s why the Pride Center of Western New York is pleased to host the new Pride Group of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
Meetings will be held Mondays at 8 p.m. beginning July 5th. They areto the public, and welcome all people who have the desire to stop drinking.
“Part of the Pride Center’s mission is to provide healthy alternatives to Western New York’s LGBT communities,” Pride Center director Jim Ver Steeg said. “For that, we are very happy to offer our space to the Pride Group of AA.”
The Pride Center is funded by a grant from the Department of Health, which sees dealing with substance abuse issues as a key factor in servicing the LGBT communities of Western New York. The Pride Center also provides referrals to substance abuse counseling and support groups, as well as resources for partners, friends and families of individuals struggling with substance abuse.
For more information on the group and other alcohol and drug counseling and rehabilitation services, e-mail info or call 716-852-PRIDE (7743).
