New Organization Brings Educators Together
After a decade-long absence, Gay and Lesbian Educators (GALE) is back to unite teachers in Western New York.
Founder Bill Fay, a high school teacher for the past 28 years, helped revive the Buffalo-based organization earlier this year. After sending out more than 75 invitations to various individuals and organizations, GALE drew about 18 attendees to its first meeting at the Pride Center on February 5. Among those in attendance were a high school principal and a professor from SUNY Geneseo.
“We’re veryto meeting other professionals from the education field,” Fay said. “What we at GALE hope to achieve in the upcoming meetings is to write a mission statement, as well as set the agenda for the coming year, and network with other educators to better serve gay educators and gay youth.”
GALE meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Pride Center. For more information, e-mail the group at GALEWNY.
