Pride Center Boosts Mental Health Services
The Pride Center is proud to announce an important enhancement of its services to the LGBT communities of Western New York. Beginning in August, our support and counseling services will see significant growth through the efforts of our new Mental Health Coordinator, Anne Hartley Pfohl. We consider ourselves lucky to have Anne as a member of our staff. Her dedication is marked not only by the energized pursuit of her PhD, but also through the caring and commitment she has shown to this community.
There is no doubt that in our mission to provide a healthy and satisfying place to live, work and establish our families, support and discussion groups provide a valuable and reliable service to our communities. For everything from support in the coming out process to programs involving substance abuse and domestic violence, group work provides a safe and effective method to help individuals navigate through important issues affecting their lives.
So while we are not yet offering clinical counseling services, we are addressing some of the most important issues facing LGBT individuals in our area. I think back to a statement I made when we firstd the Center. I half-jokingly said we were here to “build a better queer.” Though the statement may seem a bit silly, our offering of mental health services at the Pride Center will work to do exactly that.
