Hartley Pfohl Added to Staff of Pride Center
Although Pride Center Mental Health Coordinator Anne Hartley Pfohl is a new addition to our staff, she is hardly new to the community.
Pfohl, who is currently completing a Ph.D. in Counselor Education through The Ohio State University, has worked for more than 10 years in the areas of education, advocacy, community building and public health with LGBT people. She also performs with Buffalo United Artists and participates in other community events. Most recently, she was on the board of Pride Buffalo and worked with other mental health professionals to develop the Pride Center’s continuing Coming Out Discussion and Support Group, one of our most innovative and exciting programs.
“I feel deeply connected to people who strive to create happiness in the face of discrimination,” Pfohl said. “I have seen people use their strength and imagination to create positive change in their own lives, and in the world around them, time and again."
Pfohl is trained in individual and group counseling and graduated with a Masters degree in Education from nearby St. Bonaventure University in 1999.
“I believe in people’s power to create their own happiness, or I wouldn’t be a counselor,” Pfohl said.
