From an anonymous reader: BRAVO to Oregon's Chairperson Dianne Linn for ordering same sex marriage licenses to be given out in her county (Multnomah County).
BRAVO to Mayor John Shields of Nyack NY for beginning same sex marriages in his town of Nyack (..and pursuing a license for himself and his partner as well).
BRAVO to Mayor Jason West of New Paltz NY for beginning same sex marriages in his little village of New Paltz NY. He has continued his stand for equality for his people even after the District Attorney has filed 19 misdemeanor charges against him. BRAVO for your courageous stand Mayor West!
BOOO throwing cabbage at District Attorney Don A. Williams for pressing 19 misdemeanor charges against New Paltz Mayor Jason West for allowing same sex marriages.
BRAVO Mayor Gavin Newsom of San Francisco California for not backing down on his stance for equal rights for his city's gay community.
BOOO throwing tomatoes at NYC Mayor Bloomberg for refusing to allow same sex marriages in NYC today.
From Todd Warfield: “This proposed amendment has absolutely nothing to do with Gay Rights. Bush is simply using the issue as a lightning rod to split the democratic vote. It's unfortunate, something so important to the LGBT community is being used as yet another spin tactic. The Republican Party, henceforth known as the Legion of Doom, is simply taking a preemptive strike at the next election. Conservative democrats will side with Satan's opinion on this issue and re-elect the Antichrist back into office. It's quite brilliant in a surreal way, no wonder the politicians get to steal the big bucks. In the end, what happens with gay rights will hopefully be a beneficial sidebar, probably caused more by media and popular opinion than Constitutional rigmarole.”

"I can't believe a country that was founded on the principle of freedom would deny human rights from their citizens while making a point of bringing human rights to other parts of the globe. Seems a little hypocritical don't you think? And while thinking on that fact, where is the separation of church and state now? America isn't and never was a true democracy, but now this country is barely even a republic. I'm saddened, but I'll continue to fight."

"It saddens me to realize that someone who is supposed to be our nation’s role model, leader, and hero can discriminate, be close minded, and throw out education on teaching tolerance. This breaking news makes me lose faith in Bush and where our country is headed. Who is one person to say what is right or wrong based on only what they know? This is a very important part of history in my life that affects me in so many ways. Why is it not right for two people to be in love and show it? It’s time for people to stand up and show what they believe in! I know I will!"

"I can't believe that the president would support an amendment that would deny citizens of this country equality and freedom. A constitutional amendment banning gay marriage would be legalized discrimination. Now is
the time for people to really stand up at take notice of what Bush is doing to this country, and people need to make their voices heard in the next election."
