The Movie Club - FAQ

What is The Movie Club?
The Movie Club offers discount priced movie tickets ($6 US) on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month to its members in the LGBT community. It's a great way to socialize with friends, make new friends & have some fun.
How do I join The Movie Club?
Send us an e-mail at urbanoutings_wny with your name and the e-mail address where you want the movie notices to be sent. A confirmation email will be sent to confirm your membership.
When and where are the movies held?
Movies are held on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at the AMC Theaters located in the WALDEN GALLERIA MALL. Start times will vary. AMC Theaters chooses the movie start times and not The Movie Club.
Can I use the club if my schedule is unpredictable?
Because we do movies on the 1st and 3rd Monday, we accommodate even the most erratic of work and life schedules. Moreover, you never need to know your schedule way ahead of time to sign up and participate in events. Assuming there's availability, you can RSVP for the movie only hours before it begins!
Do I have to come to every Monday movie?
No. Come only to the movies you want. Join us every time or only once in a while. It's up to you.
Do I have to let you know if I am planning on attending?
No. However letting us know will help ensure your discount ticket and not someone else. It will also allow us to know when everyone who is planning on attending has arrived. We enter the theater 10 minutes before the start time.
Is there a membership fee to join The Movie Club? How much?
No. Membership is FREE. The only charge is the cost of the move ticket and any refreshments you may want. If you choose to join us for dinner before the movie or refreshments after the movie this would also be at your own expanse.
How much does the movie cost?
$6.00 for members. The regular price for a movie is $7.50. (AMC reserves the right to change prices without notice).
How will I know what the movie is and start time?
Movie e-mails will be sent (to the e-mail address you gave when you joined) on Tuesday nights with a weekend reminder. This email will give you all the details about the movie and the start time. The movie start times are set by AMC Theater (not The Movie Club) and will vary. The plan is to be home before 11 PM.
Do I have to be single to join The Movie Club?
No, you do not need to be single. The Movie Club isto both single and coupled/partnered individuals who are looking to make friends and meet others in a fun, laid-back setting.
Can I join alone?
Yes! There's a real sense of community that comes from belonging to The Movie Club that naturally develops from attending the movies together. It's more like a group of "friends of friends" going out together.
Do I have to be "out of the closet" to be a Movie Club member?
No. When you sign up for The Movie Club membership, we do not ask you whether or not you're out. If you decide to join The Movie Club and attend movies, then you are an individual who is comfortable being seen out with a group of other men and women.
Will my name and/or e-mail be given to anyone else?
No information about you leaves the club and none of it is used for anything other than urbanoutings_wny club purposes.
What are members REALLY like? Is this a group of socially impaired wallflowers?
NO WAY! The Movie Club is full of intelligent, fun-loving and successful social men and women who like to have a good time while meeting new people - people just like you!
Is it cliquey?
New members join every day. There's no "in crowd". Plus, the roster of attendees is never exactly the same for any two movies.
Do people make friends with whom they socialize outside of The Movie Club?
Of course! The Movie Club is a great place to meet new friends with whom to socialize at dinner before the movie, the movie, coffee afterwards and outside the club as well.
Will The Movie Club find me romance? A boyfriend? A girlfriend? Friends? Networking contacts?
The Movie Club is a social club that attracts men and woman with different life situations and reasons for joining the club. Some people join because they are new to town; some join to be more active; some join seeking friendship or romance; some join looking to meet other couples, etc. The Movie Club does not specifically connect you in any of these ways, but the club does provide an environment where you can develop all of these sorts of connections. It's up to you to use the club to meet who you want to meet. It couldn't be easier!
Can I bring a guest to a movie?
YES! Members are encouraged to bring guests. Invite your friends to come along.
Do you offer other social events?
Not at this time. We are a new club. Our plan is to offer additional social activities in the future. As a member of this club you will be notified as new events are offered and your input is encouraged.
