HELP SUPPORT THE PRIDE CENTER

This
Holiday Season we at the Pride Center would like to take a moment to share
our successes and thank you for your kind support.
In the past two years the
Center has made an indelible mark in Western New York. If it was offering
Coming Out support groups, advocating for equal rights and inclusion, or
organizing Pride at the Pier, we have worked hard to address a wide range of
needs and interests in our area.
We have also experienced our
share of challenges. Narrowly avoiding a funding crisis in Albany, we faced
the very real possibility of closing the Center’s doors and stopping our
service to the community.
So that we can continue
providing everything from health and legal referrals to offering a safe
space for the community, we need your help. Please take a moment to make a
donation to the Pride Center. You can simply and securely make your
donation online by clicking the PayPal button to the right.
As always,
your help and support are greatly appreciated!
Happy Holidays!

Message from the Director
The Gender Divide
By Jim Ver Steeg, Executive Director
LGBT people often
benefit from living in mid– to large-size cities where there are options,
alternatives and resources for our communities. However, when options are
available, an unexpected and often damaging dynamic often surfaces: the
demographic split between lesbians, gay men and transgender individuals.
Each camp has their turf, their own activities, and their own
“claimed” establishments. Unlike more rural areas where there may be one bar or
coffee spot and men and women actually cohabitate; Western New York has all the
benefits and pitfalls of a community with options.
