I am a graduate student in Social Policy, focusing on Museums and Public History. I am creating a non-profit organization geared towards examining the presentation and visibility of LGBTQ pesons and subject matter in Public History as part of my masters thesis. I plan to collect data in Buffalo and to launch NALPHI in New York State by 2007.
Anyone interested in exploring this issue as part of a focus group or just carrying on a helpful dialogue concerning my work, please contact me. I think that Buffalo offers my research a unique advantage, with the number of museums and the interest in LGBTQ history already expressed by members of the community, that coupled with my perspective as an historian and a transplant to the city will provide an interesting case study and fruitful examination.
I would ideally like to start a discussion group in the spring and have group outings to museums afterwhich, members would voluntarily fill out questionares and offer feedback that I may use as data for my research and insight into how to address the issues I am examining. Thanks! _________________ BJ Whitley |
