Buffalo, NY, March 21, 2004 - - The Pride Center of Western New York
will cosponsor a special Town Meeting today (Sunday) with the Empire
State Pride Agenda (Pride Agenda) to discuss marriage equality for
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) families in New York
State.
Buffalo LGBT families will talk about what it means to not have the same
protections and rights government provides to all other families and the
difference access to marriage in their day-to-day lives. New York’s
history on this issue will be presented and everyone will be brought up
to date on what’s happening now across the state.
Panelists at the Town Meeting will include local LGBT families, Pride
Center Executive Director, Jim Ver Steeg; Pride Agenda Director of
Public Policy and Government Affairs, Ross Levi; and Unitarian
Universalist Minister, Joel Miller. Also scheduled to appear are David
Cantaffa and Anthony Laulette, who recently applied for and were denied
a marriage license by the City Clerk’s office.
